The Mountain State Part 2: Still Exploring West Virginia's History!
Help me give my students the opportunity to dive even deeper into our study of West Virginia through an even wider range of excellent titles on the state's history and culture.

My Project
In eighth grade, our students have the unique opportunity to examine the great state they live in, West Virginia. This includes a study of the geography, economics, government, and history of our state. Students take the course for the entire school year, and become very engaged with learning about their state.
While useful to provide a framework for our learning, our West Virginia studies textbooks largely skim the surface when covering material and this often leaves our students with the desire to learn more.
The books students have already received have been well received and loved by my students. This has spurred further interest in examining our state in greater detail. The books included in this project will allow my students to continue to more closely examine topics related to pop culture, legends and lore, the Civil War, government, and numerous other topics related to our great state. This will aim to spur on greater discussion of topics related to West Virginia and allow my students to learn as much as possible about the state.
More than half of students from low‑income households
