I teach third grade students in a small, rural community. This grade is a very important year. In this year students are becoming more independent and taking their own strides to pinpoint their interests and learning styles. Students must have voice and choice as much as possible in order for them to become self-sufficient.
During this year students will be finding their learning styles, which is being fostered by a creative learning environment which include rich literacy experiences and creative learning style.
Giving my students the gift of books would open up a whole world of culture, experience, imagination, creativity and so much more!
My Project
With the implementation of any good reading program, books are the essential component. With a wide range of levels in student progress, variety is the key to engaging these students in reading. My students will need many books across genres and interest areas, all that connect to the curriculum.
This project will support third graders in their adventures through learning by supporting their imagination and peeking their interests in mysteries, biographies and nonfiction text.
Making learning relevant is always at the forefront of my mind when teaching and I find it important to make sure that the literature that is offered in our classroom library is up to date and relatable to our 21st century students.
