I currently teach fourth grade for the Boston Public Schools. While our school is nestled in the heart of the North End, students come to us from many different parts of the city.
I feel so incredibly lucky every day to teach the most ambitious learners in Boston.
My students come in every day eager to learn, full of questions, and excited to seek out learning opportunities wherever they can.
Our class's focus word for this year is "persevere." My fourth graders persevere through challenges every single day inside and outside of the classroom. They do this while always remaining positive and having a growth mindset.
My Project
Having multiples copies of books will allow for my students to participate in powerful book clubs. Later on this year, students will participate in historical fiction book clubs. Historical fiction is such an important genre to read; however, it is one that many students are reluctant to dive into. These brand new books will allow for students to get excited about historical fiction reading!
Book clubs are an important part of a literacy rich classroom - they help motivate students, encourage them to take responsibility for their reading, and foster rich discussions amongst peers.
Book clubs allow for students to engage in powerful discussions with their peers. Students learn about how to agree and disagree with one another, how to challenge conversations, and how to add on to what others are saying. Book clubs are always a favorite experience students have from 4th grade!
