Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Imagine: You are a first grade scholar. You know you want to go to college someday but have no idea how to get there. You also know that reading is important but you can't yet read well enough to access the most interesting literature. You need books written at your literacy level.

About 60% of my students receive free and reduced lunch.

Many have not had exposure to literature that helps them fall in love with reading. They know that they want to go to college but have no idea how to get there, and won't stand a chance unless they become fluent readers soon. They need books that inspire them to put in the practice they need to become readers, closing the literature and vocabulary gap between them and their more affluent counterparts -- who will be competing with them for admission to the college of their choice. We want all our students to pursue lives of active citizenship. College attendance, with literacy as a foundation, will be essential to this goal.

My Project

These fiction and non-fiction books bring engaging stories and fascinating scientific concepts to life! The texts are accessible to young and struggling readers. Full color illustrations, diagrams and exciting language will inspire a sense of awe among even the most resistant readers. Can you picture the look of captivation on their faces and the imprint on their intellectual lives that your donation will make?

Interesting, accessible literature is the key to literacy, which is the key to empowerment and active citizenship.

This leveled library is an amazing opportunity for you to make a direct and substantial impact on the lives and futures of first grade scholars, their families and even our community at large.
