The More They Read, The More Places They'll Go

My students need a variety of books that are specific to their individual reading levels to read independently.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I work in a Title 1 school where all students receive free breakfast and lunch. My students come from many different backgrounds, cultures, races, and family dynamics. Many students come from low income, multi-family households. My school is a very large public school that serves nearly 1,000 students.

As diverse as my students backgrounds are, they are even more diverse academically.

They each have many individual needs that can change almost daily. Differentiation plays a major role in my classroom in order to help each and every student become successful both academically and in life.

My Project

Since my students are so diverse, both academically and culturally, access to books at their independent level is imperative. These pre-leveled books will help me to provide them with options at their own level so that they can read and grow at their own pace. With such diverse family backgrounds many students do not have a variety of books at home. To help with this, I will also allow students to take these books home weekly to strengthen their reading and share with their families.

Books can transport students on many adventures and help expand their scope of the world around them.

Providing options in both the fiction and nonfiction genre will help my students become better readers and members of our community.
