My Students

"Tell me, I’ll forget. Show me, I’ll remember. Involve me, I’ll understand!" Students in our STEM lab are constantly involved in an active learning process. Working in teams, we're developing solutions to a variety of problems, and learning about science and engineering practices along the way.

I'm currently working as a STEM teacher for grades PreK-8.

We're currently in year 2 of this exciting program which developed after my involvement in a STEM for K-8 Teachers graduate program. One unit at a time, I work to develop high quality engineering and design activities that engage students in a variety of real world experiences. Integral to the program's development is my involvement in the graduate work and the professional learning offered through the university.

My Project

My graduate program involves five science courses, three engineering courses, and coursework in curriculum design, learning theory, and leadership. I currently work from a desktop computer at work and a really old school district provided laptop. My technology is so outdated that I find it difficult to keep up with the current technologies used in graduate classes. A new laptop would allow me not only the opportunity to learn and utilize new technologies in the classroom, it would also allow me a more efficient means of writing curriculum for our students. In graduate class, we work in teams to accomplish a variety of activities that are transferable to the classroom. From real time development of marketing videos, to generation of graphs to share with the whole group, technology is at the heart of any true STEM program. A new laptop would allow me to contribute to the professional learning environment while simultaneously help me learn the new technology used in classrooms.

In order to provide the students with current technology, teachers must learn current technology.

Access to the technology is critical to this learning. Having a laptop in graduate school will not only help me learn the newest tools for teaching, it will then allow me to transfer those tools to the classroom where all students will benefit.
