Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
When it comes to teaching children with disabilities, reaching goals can look very different for each student. Sometimes, it's writing a multi-paragraph essay with a strong claim and supporting details or moving up a reading level. Other times, it's waiting patiently for your turn or staying engaged for just a few minutes at a time.
Regardless, every student deserves to feel a sense of pride when they've achieved a goal.
Ideally, the reward is just having completed the goal itself. With struggling students who often come into the first day of school already feeling defeated, even the smallest extrinsic motivation like a sticker, a fun little eraser, or a colorful fidget can give them a sense of accomplishment. Over time, these smaller achievements add up to greater academic success.
My goal for this project is to celebrate successes, no matter how small, so my students begin to view themselves as the true scholars they are.
