My students are diverse learners from various backgrounds in a low-income neighborhood in Oakland, California. They are eager to learn and already love the idea of becoming college students. Academically, many of them are still developing foundational skills in order to get to a first grade level.
This year, I have the ambitious goal of every single student of mine reading on grade level by the end of the year.
In the past, this has unfortunately not been the case. My children truly deserve this success and I am looking to do all that I can to bring that to them.
My Project
Access to texts at each students' level is one of the most fundamental classroom supports that helps students continue develop grade level literacy skills.
These books will give students more texts within their zone of development to promote accelerated reading growth.
These books will make all the difference in being able to apply the skills they are working hard to learn. They will also increase student excitement and engagement during partner and independent reading times. My early readers will be so excited to use these texts each and every day. New books are critical in creating and developing voracious readers!
