This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Our students are passionate about social justice and intersectional advocacy work. Many identify as a part of the Black, Latinx, and LGBTQIA+ community. They are best engaged through transformative and diverse lessons. My students continue to surprise me with their kindness and compassion. If I had to describe my students with one word it would be ‘GRIT’. Day after day, our students overcome the odds to succeed. I have no doubt that this generation of students will change our country for the better!
My Project
Help empower the next generation of Black, Latinx, LGBTQ+ , and students with disabilities voters. A classroom set of ‘March’ by John Lewis would elevate the connection our students of color feel to their government. Many of our students feel a disconnect between politics and their communities. The graphic novel is a critical part of validating our students’ lived experiences! A donation to this community will not only impact my current classes. We will continue to tell the story of Bloody Sunday for years to come. Please Help us empower and uplift the students of C. High School! Thank you!
