Help me give my students a different perspective on United States History. It was suggested I get a class set of The Nystrom Atlas of Our Country's History.
Every year, I have a wonderful group of students. Most work hard in understanding the concepts that I teach them. Alas, some students struggle with these subjects. One thing I love about teaching is giving my students an opportunity to learn using hands-on experience.
I love it when students use hands-on activities and suddenly their eyes light up and their confidence soars.
They finally understand. In 5th-grade there are many hard lessons that students need to learn in just one year. With determination, grit, and perseverance my students can learn and succeed.
My Project
During the summer, I took a History Professional Development Class. I learned that students need concrete models like maps to view events that happened in our U.S. History. Along with my primary sources, students will be able to make connections to historical events.
The best part about this Atlas is that there is a literacy component that allows students to write, comprehend and practice finding evidence to support main ideas.
This resource is the best coverage of my core curriculum and the lessons allow me to integrate into other subjects. These Atlases will bring another level to my students' knowledge and understanding.
