My Students
Reading is a magical journey, and my students are in need of more magical experiences. Their current socioeconomic backgrounds often hinder them from experiencing the magic of reading when away from school.
I have a class of 17 amazing students, each coming from a different background, studious, and with a personality larger than life.
Our school is located in a very low-income area. Our school is a Title I school and all my students are on free or reduced lunch. The students in my class have limited access to resources. Most of them have not been outside of their neighborhood. These students see violence and gang related activities as a part of their daily lives. My students do not get the opportunities to experience the magic of reading outside of the school setting, which is why it is most important for me to give them as many opportunities as possible.
My Project
I am requesting several Magic Tree House chapter and audio book sets to provide my students the opportunity to experience the love of reading. This will allow my students to participate in transitional chapter books regardless of their reading abilities and motivate them to be better readers. Talking and reading about books brings about great discussions! My students love to share what they have learned and make connections, whether academic or personal. This will be possible with these materials and will promote reading in my classroom!
