Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
As a bright and promising new school year has arrived, it brings me back to the wise words of Malcolm X who said, "Education is the passport to the future, for tomorrow belongs to those who prepare for it today." Let me introduce a piece of that promising future to you here in our "Sun City" known as El Paso.
Our grade level is truly blessed to have students who come into our classrooms eager to learn new concepts, who work hard to fill each other's invisible buckets with acts of kindness, who are willing to take risks and make mistakes, and who are team players that enjoy working cooperatively.
Our fourth grade students believe in the "Power of Yet!" and we look forward to learning from each other (I am always learning new things from my students).
My Project
Storyworks Magazine develops a love for reading in many genres. Students are able to connect to real world stories as well as stories of the imagination. When each child has their own magazine, they are able to practice annotating.
The discussions that are generated by the articles are motivating and encourage everyone to share their opinions.
Students learn how to make connections, inferences, and predictions while reading. I have never seen so much excitement for reading time as when I pull out the magazines we will be using during a month. Students instantly take a preview through their issue and throughout the classroom you can hear voices whispering in excitement about a topic they have seen that we will be reading.
