This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I teach visual art to the most amazing elementary-aged students. I have been at the same school for 21 years and I still love seeing the excitement in their eyes when they enter my art room. Watching them explore art materials, use their imaginations, and discover their creativity is why I teach!
My Project
For this unique school year, I would like to give my art students the materials they will need, whether they are learning in school or at home, to explore and be creative. When remote learning began in March, my biggest struggle was creating lessons knowing how limited the students supplies were at home. I would like to add these amazing oil pastels to my students "art toolbox" so they can continue sharpening their drawing skills using this more complex material. I also found that flimsy copy paper was not ideal for all projects, so the blank index cards will be a great additional material for more sturdy art-making, including paper sculptures and pop up reliefs!
