My Project

Music is universal. It is a creative outlet of human expression found in every culture and throughout history. Music brings aspects of beauty and joy into the classroom. All children, regardless of their native language or stage of development, can enjoy music. I am seeking to develop my students' knowledge of music and the 4 families of musical instruments. We currently use plates, cups, buckets, and cans to make instruments and pictures of actual instruments to learn about the ones we don't have access to. The instruments I am requesting will give my children hands-on experiences making music the way an actual band would. They will be able to use the piano and drum when we learn about percussion instruments. They will be able to use the violin to hear the difference between a percussion instrument and a string instrument. They will be able to hear the difference between a woodwind instrument (flute) and the brass instruments (trumpet and saxophone). These instruments will also help them to connect recordings we hear to the actual instruments that produce the music. My children will also begin to see how music can impact their moods, feelings, and how they view the world.

Children come to appreciate the beauty in the world around them through their experiences with music.

This, in a nutshell, is the magic of music. Be the catalyst who inspires my students to appreciate the beauty in their world by giving them hands-on experiences with musical instruments. Spread some magical music!
