My Students
Building connections between old and new knowledge helps enlighten and enhance learning. Classroom discussions help broaden my students' knowledge base about the topics and ideas we're studying. Although my students attend a Title I school, they love working together, discussing new topics, as well as making connections between what they're learning and the real world.
My students range in abilities and languages spoken--they are diverse learners who need a variety of teaching strategies to help them learn.
My students come to school eager to learn from various living situations such as single parents, foster homes, homeless shelters, or extended family living.
Despite their varying home lives, they come to school with a zest for learning.
My Project
Book clubs are a wonderful way to foster a love a reading in even the most reluctant of readers! Students enjoy being in the driver's seat--making choices on what books they want to read and voting on their favorite titles!
Once the title is chosen, in their book club, students choose their goals using the standards, write their objective and success criteria, and facilitate their own discussions based on the assignments they create.
It is a remarkable experience to listen as they debate ideas they have about the characters, decipher the possible problems that the characters face, and elaborate on insightful themes they see within the book.
These sets of books will open up new discussions and experiences for the students. Please help me get these books in their hands and get the conversations rolling!
