Help me give my students the experience they need in understanding basic counting skills, number sense and one to one correspondence when counting objects.
The items requested will give students the experience they need in developing an understanding of number sense. Counting objects will provide the tactile way for students to tangibly touch and understand numbers and help them to make the connection that one object represents the number 1. Children need hands on learning experiences to connect with counting and numbers in order to retain the understanding of counting. These activities will help children to be engaged and active in participating in their own learning which can lead to improved retention and understanding.
Using objects and other counters will help them to develop problem solving skills as they gain knowledge of number sense.
Students will be able to manipulate the physical objects and be able to solve problems as they gain understanding of the math problems they are learning. As they gain understanding of numbers and how it relates to their math problems, they will learn and develop a variety of strategies in solving math problems. Students engaged in hands on materials and activities will increase their motivation and be more engaged as they actively participate with other students in the learning process. They will be able to solve, collaborate, and understand math concepts as they work together.
Using objects and other math manipulatives will also provide support for students who have special needs, diverse learners, and those who struggle with understanding abstract concepts. These materials will help support the teacher in providing differentiating lessons. As students gain understanding of number sense, it will set the basic foundational skills they need to solve advance math concepts in the next grade.
