My students love technology and want to be able to read using different types of media. E-books are one area where students can obtain them quicker, have a larger library available to them, read different genres, and they will learn to enjoy reading from technology.
Upon entering our special education or a collaborative classroom, a visitor's first impression would be summed up by one word: energy and the need to read.
My students face many other challenges in their lives, reading should not be one of them. For my students, school is a safe place where they come ready to learn everyday! I'm very proud of how hard my students work and the accomplishments they make each day with their independent reading level.
Many of the students in our school come from families struggling with poverty, and 69% are eligible for free or reduced price lunch. In addition, many students come to school distracted by community and/or family issues.
The students will learn to use technology to find interesting e-books to read. The iPads will help students in my classroom to navigate through the internet to find books that they will enjoy to read. The firsts steps to becoming life-long readers, is the enjoyment of books.
My goal is to teach students to find e-books that they will love to read and this will lead them to becoming life long learners and independent learners.
My students will read to learn and find enjoyment in doing so. Finding what students are interested in will hopefully make them want to continue to read and become successful.
Students also have the school library that they can use to find e-books and take assessments, which are called AR books.
