Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Remembering learning how to read and reading your first Dr. Seuss book? I work with first, second, and third graders who have learning needs. My desire for my students is to get them all reading close to grade level by the end of the year. My biggest challenge is having a range of materials.

My students come from a range of cultural and linguistic backgrounds.

They are very curious, funny, smart and sweet. My students really benefit from multi-sensory learning materials and lessons . The students are excited and anxious to learn how to read. Each day they are working hard to learn new words and vowels sounds to make their goals. My school is a place where academics are important. The school has a lot of students who received free lunch. The students know that the school is a place where they are able to learn and have all of their basic needs met.

My Project

The students will use these materials to enhance their reading experience. My classroom will be a place that is enriched with literacy materials, which consist of fluency activities, multicultural books for read aloud, an IPAD in which the students can use for reading games , handwriting activities and comprehension activities. I envision that the materials will serve as a way to reinforce concepts, which have been previously taught to the students. I would love to do centers with the students to develop the independent practice for the students. The student really enjoy learning games that spark their interest and make learning fun. The students will learn how to become fluent readers, avid readers, and they will understand what they are learning. I really want all of my students to become confident in their reading skills and succeed.

My project will make a difference because the students need to learn how to read and understand that reading is a skill that they need to succeed in life.

I want to show the students that that learning to read is fun and exciting. It will improve my classroom because the students will have an improved self- esteem.
