My students need games, including the Word Fun Game Set, Junior Games and a Language Games Kit, to learn team building, cooperation and sportsmanship in a fun and relaxing forum.
Our students have been recovering from an incredibly difficult tragedy which recently occurred in our town. We have created a space in our school where classrooms can go to read, think and relax in a comfortable setting.
Our school is in a rural community in Connecticut.
It is one of four elementary schools in our town. We share a common vision for learning and our student populations are similar. We have almost 400 students with diverse learning styles and needs including gifted, special needs and ELL students. Our classroom culture is supportive and challenging at the same time. The bar of expectations is raised high and our students work diligently to do their personal best. Our parent community is supportive and we work hard to find innovative and engaging work for our students to do.
My Project
At the beginning of the school year, our fourth grade students began a community service project to create a reading lounge. The lounge was created to be a space for relaxed learning, for support and enrichment activities. We have a collection of books and would now like to add games and puzzles that encourage divergent thinking and higher level thinking skills. The space will be available for use by all of the students in our school. Having a wide range of quality games available for students to choose from will be enhance the engagement and learning that takes place there.
This project is important because it allows us to differentiate learning for all of the students in our school from kindergarten through fourth grade.
As our students recover from our recent tragedy, they now have an alternate place to relax and learn in.
