In the big city, bringing nature to my students is very important. I believe a fish tank in the classroom can teach many things to students, such as an appreciation of beauty in nature, the responsibility of taking care of something smaller than yourself and also the fragility of life. These third graders live in the South side of Chicago, where poverty, crime and decay surround them. I believe that a fish tank can give them a daily reminder of the beauty of nature, lazily swimming around, bringing enjoyment and wonderment to my students. I would truly like to upgrade the fish tank and accessories I now have. With a 30 gallon or larger tank, with a heater, light and bubbler I can bring in more fish or have my kids help pick them out, and display them better to add to the enjoyment and educational benefits.
