My Project
The items I am requesting for my students will allow me to give them more opportunities to analyze scientific concepts independently or in groups. For instance, I like to flip the way my 7th graders are taught about the organelles within a cell. Instead of introducing the function of cells in a traditional way of teaching, students can take a close look at the cross section and begin to hypothesize the role of each organelle, compare the main two types of cells, and more.
Supplying my students with a device as simple as a calculator allows them to collaborate and analyze scenarios that are rooted in scientific concepts and math.
From calculating energy to correctly using formulas, calculators are necessary for my class to effectively merge the disciplines of science and math.
Giving my students access to hands-on models and other technology will strengthen their learning and ability to retain the information because it allows them to actively engage with content in a way that doesn't include a computer.
