Biology is a diverse subject area. In my classroom, you can find my students involved in either large group discussion, small group activities or lab experiments. My goal is to prepare them not only for the upper levels of science at the high school level but for the college level as well.
Many of my students come from areas of high poverty.
It is not a rare scene to see students walking into my class without any supplies. Despite this fact, my students are eager to learn. They are constantly asking questions as to how the different topics in Biology relate to themselves or the world around them.
My Project
Throughout the school year my students have at least one project a quarter. The markers, glue, pencils and poster board will give many students, who otherwise could not afford it, a chance to be creative and put their own bit of themselves into the subject material. The markers will also allow for the students to color code their notes and to graphically represent the data from their experiments.
Biology is not an easy subject to grasp for most students.
Lectures can be somewhat wordy and not every student is an auditory learner. With this donation, I will be able to reach those students who are more visual thinkers. These materials will help more students succeed in my classroom and give them a boost in confidence that some of them lack due to circumstances beyond their control.
