Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach Kindergarten in a Queens NY public school that has a large special education population. I have 20 high spirited 5 year olds in my class.
It's the little things that help make a teacher's life easier that we all appreciate. Like a pencil sharpener that works or pencils that fit my students hands as well as the safety of my children. Safety is always a priority for any teacher, especially on class trips. For safety purposes I always make my class name tags using index cards and yarn. Unfortunately the cards always rip and the yarn always gets tangled up on the children's necks. By the last trip of the year the tags are mangled and torn. Last year on a trip one child twisted her yarn so tightly that she almost choked! Thankfully I was able to quickly remove the tag from her neck, but the fear of that situation still remains with me.
If I had a class set of big, easy to read and super-safe tags for my class, class trips would be much safer. These tags unfasten instantly due to the hook and loop closures so that no one will ever get tangled up in their name tag again! When they are pulled on it has a quick release design, also they are sturdy and reusable from year to year. Also, a pencil sharpener that sharpens all sizes of pencils would be a great time saver in my classroom. I wouldn't have to sharpen pencils by hand anymore!
Keeping all children safe is a top priority for all educators and with your generous help my class could be safe on the many class trips we take all year long. You would make it possible for my students to be super-safe and tangle-free when they venture outside our school.
