My students transition from the general education setting to the learning center for half hour academic periods.
We are a charter school in Connecticut with students in grades K-8.
Our school has a dual mission in character development and technology. As a charter school, we are held to the same standards as all public schools, but are only funded by state taxes. Although we have a limited budget, our school has closed the achievement gap year after year on state testing. I work with students in grades K-4, who have a range of disabilities including; autism, developmental delay, speech or language impairments, ADHD, and specific learning disabilities. My students come to school each day eager to learn.
My Project
I am requesting 1 iPad to help improve literacy, math, and writing skills for inclusion and pull out classes.
Students will use the iPad to help foster independence as they read text or have text read aloud to them. During math instruction, the students will use the iPad to practice their math fact fluency, to review new concepts, and to use interactive manipulatives. Students can access many different math apps and use web-based programs. During reader's workshop, the students will use the iPad in a variety of ways to help with reading fluency. The students can use an app to record themselves reading and listen back to self evaluate. The teachers will use the iPad to present material to the students using SMART Notebook Software, Prezi, and Google Presentations. Teachers will also use the iPad for data collection.
Currently, our learning center only has 2 desktop computers for students to use.
Our students crave interactive technology, which we are currently lacking! Please help our students by donating an iPad. Your small donation will make a world of difference in the way teachers can present their instruction and the ways our students can learn!
