Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

A typical day in my classroom includes vibrant discussions and questioning; which allows students to connect to characters. This, in turn, allows them to identify theme and how it relates to each student and society. My goal is to infuse a passion of reading. "Exploration through books is key"

My students are eager to learn, succeed and do well.

They are well- rounded, many of them involved in extra-curricular activities. Furthermore, I also have a class of SPED(students with special needs) students whom require hands-on learning. My school is in a decent neighborhood, however, the resources are limited. As a result, the amount of class sets of novels are scarce. A way to combat this problem would be to require students to buy novels. However, some students (due to economic reasons) can not purchase additional books. These donations will provide students with additional opportunities to improve literacy.

My Project

Students will be able to increase their literacy through the use of the novel. They can read and use the post it notes to jot down important details such as character traits, plot elements, figurative language and vocabulary acquisition. By removing the post-it notes the books will be able to be used from period to period. In other words, more bang for your buck. As a result, they will learn through exploration and writing down key elements. Through this process they can also strengthen skills such as summarizing, paraphrasing, and text evidence identification. There are a plethora of activities that can be implemented. Consequently, students can gain a wealth a knowledge.

The donations will improve my classroom by providing a wider variety of reading materials to engage students.

These novels are recommended supplemental novels to the curriculum, yet are not provided. It will change my students' lives by allowing them to explore, through reading, the wondrous world of literature.
