My Project

My co-teacher and I worked very hard this year to build reading engagement and to develop a community of lifelong readers. We read Donalyn Miller's book, The Book Whisperer and learned so much as teachers. We gave students more freedom and choice about what they read. Our students spent many afternoons curled up with a book and begged for more reading time. We also tracked what they read and celebrated many successes along the way. We are both avid readers and worked to share this love with our students. We were blown away by their growth. All of our students made gains - and many grew by multiple grade levels. We are looking to improve our classroom library even further for next year - which is where you come in! Our current students helped us choose these titles!
