My Students
This is a nest class that supports general education students and students who have Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). The general education students are selected to model social and emotional behavior and this is an integrated co-teaching class with two teachers.
Students with ASD receive Social Development Intervention (aka Social Club) to work on social skills.
Most of these students are more interested in nonfiction and generally choose nonfiction books, which are limited. Our school itself is nearing the completion of our accreditation of International Baccalaureate (IB) status. The school has a popular after-school arts program including violin, cello, dance, drama, art, and comic book drawing clubs. Our school also has a dedicated after-school sports department including basketball, soccer, fencing, yoga, fitness and a "girls on the run" club.
My Project
Here at my school I have been struggling to update my classroom's library for years. I can buy a few books a year from my own pocket but completing one series seems like an endless task. With your help we can get hallmark books by amazing authors and give my students access to great stories.
From Harry Potter to Dork Diaries, my students have been requesting books all year and finally a way to make it all happen is here!
Please help me get these amazing titles that my students have actually been asking for. Our students need these higher level chapter books to practice reading skills and strategies with engaging stories that will keep them coming back again and again for the next book in the series.
