Books open the world up to students to learn, explore, imagine, and visit places they may never have known about before. I have the privilege to teach a wonderful group of third graders this year!!! I aim to create an inviting library that will encourage them to want to read every day. I want to provide students with engaging popular book series. The books I have selected are ones my student often try and check out from the library or bookmobile but are not alway available because they are popular series. I do not every want the lack of opportunity to stop a student from reading a book they want.
When students have book series they want to read they are more motivated to read independently.
On top of providing the students with popular book series, I also want my library to be inclusive. The Ritenour School District services students from diverse backgrounds. My goal is to create a classroom library where the students feel represented in the books they can read. I also want to provide books for bilingual learners in our classroom. Again it can be hard for our Spanish-speaking students to always find books in their native language. I never want a lack of books to be the reason a student isn't reading.
