My Students

The Lemonade War is a book that will introduce their understanding of starting and running a business.

I have 27 nine and ten year olds in my 4th grade class.

They are a very energetic and inquisitive group of children who love school. They go to a neighborhood elementary school in North Carolina in which 37% of students received free & reduced lunch. My students are very involved in sports, girl scouts, and boy scouts.

My Project

The Lemonade War will enable my students to understand economics. During our economics unit, we will read The Lemonade War. It will show them how one summer two siblings that were their age attempt to calculate sales and profit expenses. This book contains a variety of text features (charts, diagrams & newspaper clippings) as well as economic vocabulary & math problems. My students will learn how what works, doesn't work, and conflict within the business. Students will then apply what they learned while reading this book to create their own business plan and produce a product.

Donations will allow my students to apply what they learn in class and relate it to real life.

This unit will provide my students with lifelong skills including global awareness and the economy. Providing each student with a copy of the book helps increase their fluency, comprehension & build vocabulary.
