My Students
If you have ever played a sport, any sport, then you understand the importance of practice. It is what allows athletes to improve their skills and abilities. Unfortunately, due to severe budget cuts, our girls' basketball team cannot afford the equipment necessary to field a team.
The skill level varies on our team.
Some of the girls have been playing basketball for a few years while others are experiencing the joys of playing for the first time. Most of our girls have never experienced playing an organized sport before. They may have played pick-up basketball in a park or in their physical education classes, but were never a part of an organized league. When they become part of a team, it really has a positive impact on their lives. They feel as if they belong to something, regardless of their skill level. They bond with each other and develop as a team in ways they could never imagine. Aside from enjoying playing the sport, they are experiencing the sisterhood of being a teammate.
My Project
Due to the severe budget cut experienced in the New York City schools we are no longer able to afford the equipment necessary to field a team. We are currently down to two basketballs. The ball bag to transfer the equipment is ripping apart. Other peripheral equipment has been damaged and/or needs to be replaced due to the wear and tear of the years. We cannot run effective and efficient practices without this equipment. Our players cannot develop and hone their skills and our team cannot improve.

I do not see how our team will be able to compete and we as coaches will not be able to improve the individual skills of our girls without your help. They are so very committed and are very willing to put in the hard work, but sometimes that just isn't enough. You can change all of that with your donation. You can help our girls continue to be a part of this positive experience and have a tremendous impact on their lives.
