My students need these book titles in order to participate in literature circles that will allow them to have some independence in their learning. Each of these books will allow students to explore their own interests.
I am lucky to have a group of 25 enthusiastic and caring 6th graders who love to engage in interactive materials and texts that encourage critical thinking and spark their curiosity. My students have a wide range of abilities and interests. One commonality among them all is the excitement of being able to interact with their learning in nontraditional ways.
My students crave lessons that challenge what they are used to in the classroom and force them to think outside of the box.
They love working together in partners or groups and love to showcase their creativity. The funding of this project will help each of my students be successful in the classroom!
My Project
The books that I have chosen will help students to participate in student led book clubs where they will not only have the opportunity to choose the book that is of the most interest to them, but also work on collaboration. Students will have the opportunity to pick their book clubs through a book tasting activity that will allow them to explore all of the titles and choose the book that best fits their interests and educational needs.
The common themes in these novels will inspire my students and lead them into a kindness project where they will promote friendship, leadership, and kindness in their own school.
My 6th grade students thrive for working with one another and will also gain responsibility by having roles within their book clubs. These book clubs will promote critical thinking and comprehension in my students, but will also teach social and emotional skills, such as empathy, that are critical to middle age students.
