My school is in a very high poverty area of NYC. Some of my students who attend my school live in shelters, come in hungry, have stains on their clothes, and at times feel exhausted from taking care of younger siblings or not being able to sleep because they live in such close quarters to others. I do my best to meet the needs of all my students, and try the best I can to push them forward so they can excel. Many of my students are behind grade level, and I try to incorporate as many enrichment activities as possible to help close these gaps.
My Project
My school currently does not have a music program, and I want to create an after school program to teach my students how to play the piano. I have played the piano for over twenty years, and I believe music is extremely important and can be a great outlet for students.
The purchase of these keyboards will help me teach students in the after school program how to play the piano, as well as allow students to bring the piano back and forth from school to home so they can practice and learn even when they are not in school.
Music can be life changing, and I want to teach my students how to access this part of life. Please help me reach this goal!
