My Students
We are a Title I school that offers free breakfast and lunch to all children. Our third-grade scholars live in a high poverty neighborhood. Our community is located in an inner-city area. 85% of our students identify as African American, 5% Latino, 2% White, 1% Asian, and 9% multi-racial.
Labels and test scores do an injustice to our scholars and teachers.
My scholars and I refuse to accept failure. If you could see our children, you would understand that they are full of potential and that they are future leaders and innovators. Our students are perseverant, motivated, enthusiastic, and driven to succeed. We will bridge the poverty gap, and they will achieve!
My Project
Many of our students just don't like reading!
We need to create a love of reading by providing our scholars with high interest reading materials that they won't be able to resist!
Graphic novels such as Dog Man, The Baby Sitters Club, Nate the Great, and Teen Titans Go, are sure to engage even the most reluctant readers. These novels are visually engaging, include characters children can connect to and plots that are intriguing to the third grade reader. If our children spend more time reading, they will build their reading comprehension and fluency with ease. Help to ignite a love of reading that will last a lifetime!
