Students will create a visual storyboard that depicts Janie’s journey of self-discovery, highlighting key moments, symbols, and themes from Their Eyes Were Watching God. The project will allow students to express their understanding of the novel through visual interpretation and analysis. Their Eyes Were Watching God by Zora Neale Hurston that encourages students to reflect on the novel’s themes, symbols, and character development.
Project Description:
Part 1: Concept Design
• Students will choose 5-7 pivotal moments from the novel that represent Janie’s emotional, intellectual, and spiritual growth.
• Each moment will be illustrated visually with a symbolic representation or scene that captures the essence of that point in her journey.
Part 2: Symbol Integration
• Incorporate 3-5 major symbols from the novel (e.g., the pear tree, the horizon, the hurricane, Janie’s hair, the mule).
• Each symbol should be meaningfully placed within the storyboard and accompanied by a brief written explanation of its significance.
