The Jazz Band Needs a New Hi-Hat

My students need sax and clarinet neck straps and a new hi hat for their drum set in jazz band and concert band. This is needed because the hi hat we use is run down and on its last leg.

My Students

We do not have a lot of money to spend on essential accessories for the band. We currently have a hi hat but a new hi hat will enhance the student's experience. We also need neck straps for many of the woodwind instruments in class. Neck straps are needed as part of everyday class.

My students are motivated kids.

They are from all over Los Angeles and some travel more than an hour to go to school. Many students and parents come to our school because of the music department and the work that we do. The community values music education in public schools. More then 1/3 of the school is involved in the music program.

My Project

We have an excellent music department and with the help of the community we can make it even greater. The students will be able to play more pieces with access to this piece of percussion equipment. With a school that is over 50 years old we need to replace much of our older equipment like the hi hat. The hi hat cymbals will help us improve the jazz program at Revere and will also help improve the concert band program. All ensembles can use this equipment when call for. It will allow the ensembles to play a wider range of styles of music from various cultural backgrounds. The neck straps will allow more students to play saxophone or bass clarinet on a daily basis.

It is important because music education is important.

We as a community must encourage music education in our public schools. In the days of budget cuts there are many schools that are unable to support their music programs which is a shame. We must give access to a solid music education to our students because without an arts education we will raise a generation of students void of cultural capital. Music in school will enhance a student's experience in school.
