This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My students are special for many reasons, but one in particular being their motivation and drive to succeed and do hard things! For many of the students I work with, their motivation and self esteem was greatly impacted by COVID due to the amount of time they spent away from our school campus. I witnessed many students having a lack of confidence in themselves and their abilities due to lack of support from adults outside of school, followed by feeling they "felt confused and lost" about the things they had been taught virtually. Many of my students expressed thoughts that pointed toward challenges due to learning loss during the pandemic. Being the only Social Worker on my campus, I feel it is my responsibility to assist these students in gaining their confidence back. One of the ways I plan on doing this is to provide them with an "Jaguar Affirmation" station that is comfortable, colorful, and inviting. This comfortable station would allow them to self reflect (literally and figuratively, using the mirror) on the rug, while also practicing the implementation of vocalizing positive affirmations as apart of their daily routine. My goal is to help my students realize the positive impact of implementing positive affirmations and slowly build back the self confidence on my campus.
