This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Have you ever heard the sound of a great band? Have you ever had the experience of working as a team toward a common goal? In our music program at All City, we combine these two ideas into some amazing classes for our students. Unfortunately, our instrument inventory is not so grand!
Our school includes students in grades 6-12 from a low-income area of New York.
We are a small school, but have built our music program from its origins servicing one 6th class, to now include all interested students through their sophomore year. We have several concert bands and a marching band that performs in local parades each spring. In order to join our program, a student must only show interest -- we provide all necessary equipment to them.
My Project
I am requesting 2 new alto saxophones for our students. Altos are one of the most expensive instruments in our inventory, and therefore we have not been able to purchase any new ones in 6 years. Our program has grown tremendously over that time period, and we now do not have enough altos for all of our players. Adding 2 additional altos will all for 2 more players in each class, allowing a total of 6 new students to take up the alto saxophone.
During these difficult financial times, I am thankful that I am still able to provide an instrumental music program to students in an inner-city school.
Please help support music in the schools by helping us maintain our instrumental programs!
