Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

In the study of higher-level mathematics and sciences, having a functioning calculator is essential for student success. Graphing and scientific calculators are required for complex equations, data analysis, and problem-solving in subjects like algebra, calculus, physics, and chemistry. However, when a calculator battery dies, it can leave students unable to complete assignments, participate in lessons, or take exams effectively. Without immediate access to a replacement battery, students fall behind, limiting their ability to develop critical thinking skills and deepen their understanding of mathematical and scientific concepts.

Ensuring that students have replacement batteries allows them to engage with more advanced coursework without interruption.

Higher-level math and science subjects demand precision, and many standardized tests, including the SAT and AP exams, require the use of a functioning calculator. By keeping their devices powered, students can focus on learning rather than worrying about technical difficulties. Furthermore, access to batteries promotes equity in education by ensuring that all students—regardless of financial background—have the resources they need to succeed in STEM fields.

Providing replacement batteries for students not only supports their academic journey but also fosters confidence and enthusiasm in their studies. When students have access to the right tools, they are more likely to explore challenging topics, develop problem-solving skills, and pursue careers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. A small but impactful resource like calculator batteries can empower students to reach their full potential and prepare for a future in high-level mathematics and sciences.
