Year after year, I'm blessed and lucky enough to teach and spend my day with the sweetest kiddos alive! I teach in a high-poverty, low socioeconomic community in southern Mississippi. Our teachers are the best and the kiddos are just so awesome.
Each day, my students step off the bus ready and so excited to learn.
In my classroom, I try to make learning as fun as possible, but we do not always have the supplies and materials that we need to succeed.
My Project
This project is all about supporting the social and emotional needs of my students by fostering pretend play that encourages children to love and nurture.
"Play is the work of the child" -Maria Montessori.
Did you know that play is more than just fun? While it can often be dismissed as just for enjoyment, play is vitally important in the development of mental, physical, and social skills in early childhood. Research supports the importance of dramatic and pretend play.
Playing with dolls is one of these skills that is vital to healthy emotional and social development. When children play with dolls, they are not only developing a sense of empathy and gaining perspective of others, but they are also developing other critical life skills. These include cognitive and language skills, fine motor skills, and self-help skills.
For this project we are requesting several diverse baby dolls, doll clothing, baby beds, and feeding items.
If you think play is as important as we do, consider a donation to this very special project.
