My Students
My students are in a low income area, with parents that work a lot in order to support their families. Because of the amount that they work we don't have a lot of parental involvement in the classroom. These students face a lot of challenges every single day and I do my best to help them be successful and loved here at school.
My students now have access to one to one technology with each of them having their own Chromebook in our classroom.
I have seen them take ownership of their learning and have been very impressed with the gains they have made while using this new technology.
My Project
Teaching cursive writing is one of my favorite things to do. I love seeing the enthusiasm my students have when we begin cursive writing. It almost feels like a rite of passage for many students. Each year I have a few students that are hesitant to begin and each year I have students that jump right in and want to write everything in cursive.
Cursive is a required skill and important for today's students to have.
I want them to enjoy the process of learning it so they don't see it as another monotonous expectation from their teacher. We are not provided with cursive curriculum to teach our students. I would like to have workbooks for my students so they can see the correct formation of letters and can practice by tracing over the letters they are struggling with. They also take ownership of books they can call their own instead of just practicing on a single sheet of paper. I want to see all my students succeed with cursive writing and know cursive books would help accomplish this.
