My students need multiple book sets of 3 high interest books such as those of The Hunger Game series to encourage and foster a love of reading.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Read! Read! Read! Our district has initiated a Silent Sustained Reading program. My students are given the time to read for pleasure, but they do not have the materials to grow as a reader. Help them grow with this high interest series!
I teach 9th grade English at a school with a high poverty rate.
I have found that many of my students have not grown up in a house of "readers" and have yet to discover the joy of reading for pleasure. This lack of reading has affected their academics. They struggle with tests and comprehensions; this affects their self-esteem as well. They do not think college is possible because they have had so few successes in education so far.
My Project
The Hunger Game series is a high interest series that has captivated a few of my students. We chose this book as one of our Summer Reading books. I had a few students who read it, and they could not stop talking about it. I then read the series and was taken away by it. Everyone I know who has read any of the books, has loved every word of it. I'm hoping more of my students will enjoy it as well and start fostering that love of reading. I'm planning on using the books as their SSR books; they may check out this book to read. I also am planning on doing small groups with differentiated instructions using these books.
This project is so important to me because I feel if I can get my students to love reading, they will in turn read more.
This will then develop their vocabulary, comprehension, awareness of the world, etc. Mostly, I love reading and want my students to love it too!
