Celebrate Black Teachers and Students
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Kids love scary stories. And if that's what it takes to get them to be read, I'm all for it.
My students are English Language Learners (ELL or ESOL) who need to be encouraged to read independently. I'm at an excellent city school, but it's still necessary to inspire students to read. And nothing can replace home reading. I don't want my students to be average. I want them to excel.
My Project
These books will be included in my classroom library. Every student will have the opportunity to take these books home to read. Hopefully, by having children reading in their homes, it will not only improve their reading but also encourage their siblings to read as well. There's nothing like a good role model.
My purpose is to inspire children to become lifelong readers. The Goosebumps series of books is a proven winner with kids. They love getting scared. And better yet, they love getting scared together. It's a shared experience, a good experience that inspires reading.
