Help me give my students an opportunity to learn about the history of Hershey through lessons on perseverance, finance, and helping others.

My Project
The main focus of our Third Grade curriculum is on Pennsylvania. It is the perfect opportunity to share the inspiring story of Milton Hershey. In addition to leaving us with America’s most iconic chocolate bar, Milton Hershey left behind a legacy of goodness. It’s a story of persistence, spirit, compassion, selflessness and purpose.
The story of Milton Hershey encourages students to never give up on their dreams despite failures and disadvantages.
This project provides many opportunities to incorporate financial literacy lessons. Did you know Milton Hershey's first two candy companies were met with failure? It wasn’t until his third business that all his hard work and talent paid off. Lessons on banking, interest, and loans are all explored in the requested biography and activity books. Students will also get to "taste test" the very chocolate creations they are reading about!! My partner teacher and I are planning many fun chocolate-themed activities using the resources requested in this project.
More than three‑quarters of students from low‑income households
