Our Concert Band is one of the many groups on campus of which our community is very proud. We regularly involve 45-50 students each school year. With an aging instrument inventory, we are attempting to acquire the less expensive but much needed equipment through fundraising. This will allow the budget money to go towards the replacement of a worn out tuba and concert chimes. By taking this approach, we hope all our students will have well maintained instruments on which to play.
My Project
The heartbeat of the band is the percussion section. A stable and consistent sound from these players is integral to the wellbeing of the ensemble. When snare stands are rickety, the players are less likely to play proficiently. Therefore, equipment in good working order is essential.
With our current concert snare drum stands, the snare drummers know their their instruments are in danger of falling over.
Additionally, they can no longer be adjusted. So, we put the shorter kids on the lower stands and the taller kids on the higher stands. One of our stands has actually been constructed from 2 different pieces of equipment that have been "married" to make one stand. This particular stand can only be played by a student who about 6 feet tall.
