My Students
Hello! I teach some of the best kids you'll ever meet! I teach in a lower income urban school.
Our classroom goal is to read a variety of works, ranging from classical Shakespeare to current young adult novels.
Teaching young adult novels in my classroom has been incredibly effective, especially for my struggling readers who lack motivation. They had a blast comparing and analyzing the classical "To Kill a Mockingbird" and the groundbreaking "All American Boys" and would love to do it again!
My Project
My students in my Young Adult Literature class just finished reading The Hate U Give. This novel is so important, especially in our current climate. My students begged and begged to read it, and they absolutely loved it.
I want to provide the opportunity to experience the film adaptation as a class.
Our plan is to compare the novel and movie, and track themes in both. We are really looking forward to this, and I think it would be an important experience for them. I also think it would further the love of reading that they have developed as a result of this novel.
