Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
"I am somebody. And when I leave this room, I will be a BETTER somebody!” This is my algebra/geometry class motto. My students come from low-income communities receiving free or reduced price lunch.
They are GUERREROS and GUERREROS fight and keep on fighting for JUSTICE!
My mathematicians are so bright who persevere regardless of the difficulties and outside of the class challenges they face.
My students go through unimaginable challenges at home that are out of their control. These obstacles are not in their control and yet they come to school every single day with determination and persist to make their home/neighborhood a better place. Data shows that only 3.7% of latinos graduate college in Los Angeles. That is stating that only 1 student in every single period of 36 students will actually finish college. They know they deserve better regardless of their income, zip code, or even skin color. This movie would really inspire and touch their hearts. Please allow my students to have this opportunity.
My Project
My students need to see representation being presented in films, in award ceremonies, in speeches. They need to feel the need that they belong in this world regardless of their skin color. They need to see that they can achieve anything if they put their entire heart in it. They need to know they have a voice! Just like Starr does in this film.
We are much more powerful than we believe.
With the right encouragement and examples, my students will start movements that will change the world. Their marks will be remembered forever. They will be the greatest change anyone has ever seen.
More than three‑quarters of students from low‑income households
