The Great Virtual Learning Project!

Help me give my students a document camera to clearly project virtual learning lessons.

FULLY FUNDED! Ms. Fluker's classroom raised $618

My Students

My students attend the oldest elementary school in the nation, but our school often struggles to provide necessary supplies and classroom materials due to yearly budget cuts. My fourth graders come to my classroom with a diverse range of needs, challenges, and experiences, and problems can arise from a lack of understanding about each other's cultures and lives.

My students are from African American and white American families, as well as recent immigrants from Vietnam, Cape Verde, Puerto Rico, and Dominican Republic, and they are learning how to become serious students in the United States.

Some of my students are accustomed to 50 person classes where they only have access to materials in one way, and these superscholars need help with accessing information via different modalities.

My Project

This year all of our students will be learning virtually. The students will receive instruction online using Chromebooks. Virtually and in class, the document camera will provide the opportunity for the kids to clearly see information I'm writing during lessons on screen. We service inner city students. Many are challenged with having access to technology and information needed to meet standards and understand them clearly. For this reason, differentiated instruction is imperative.

The document camera serves the same purpose of both a whiteboard and an easel with chart paper.

While teaching at home using the document camera, I will be able to model lesson activities, provide clear mini lessons, and scaffold activities for students. Students will learn by watching me write their shared solutions or even rewatching lessons recorded on the document camera when needed.

In addition, while teaching virtually, often I've found it challenging to position my MacBook in places where students could follow a lesson that I may have been modeling on chart paper. The webcam and tripod will allow for students to follow along during zoom sessions in which I will deliver lessons. This is another modality that allows our under-serviced students to access instruction. They can follow me live with a wider range and larger view. Students who have difficulty being attentive to one speaker on Zoom sessions will find it easier to pay attention to lessons as I deliver instruction due to the enlargement and mobility of the video.
