Help me give my students outdoor percussion instruments, building blocks, and Connect Four to play outside to incorporate music and movement into their school day.
I teach in a small, rural farm community. My 25 third graders, along with their peers in our preschool-5th grade elementary building, come from a variety of backgrounds, though given our location, many don't get the opportunity to access gardens and large outdoor areas where they can play with their peers. Our students are curious, enthusiastic, creative, and energetic. They love playing and learning outdoors.
Our students are eager to learn and, as children, they yearn to move their bodies and engage with their world.
Learners benefit from being outdoors, from brain breaks, and movement. Our students thrive when they have access to rich outdoor experiences. They focus better and are excited to come to school.
My Project
Our students benefit from playing and learning outdoors. Many of our students don't have access to outdoor play areas or to music programs. Our students love to dance, create, and explore the outdoors. By providing our students with outdoor percussion instruments, large building blocks, and a giant Connect Four game, our students will be excited to explore the outdoors and incorporate music and creativity at the same time!
By donating to our project, you will not only help to improve and increase students' exposure to music play and sensory experiences outdoors, you will ultimately help to increase their academic achievement by supporting engaging brain breaks.
Students will be able to simply focus more on the academics after having the opportunity to play outdoors. Students will be excited for new opportunities that incorporate music and creative play. Whereas typical playgrounds offer swings and slides, the outdoor percussion instruments, large building blocks, and giant Connect Four game will provide innovative avenues of play and movement for our students.
