Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
"Strength lies in differences, not in similarities". This quote describes the students in my class who come from a variety of different cultures, backgrounds, and places. They love to learn, and love to apply their learning in a variety of ways. They also love to encourage each other to be the best we can be. Our school is a place where students feel safe and comfortable to take risks to grow their brains, especially as special education students. Despite the many challenges they face, I am looking to keep things simple and provide my students with creative and meaningful learning experiences.
I work hard to provide my students with a variety of opportunities for them to succeed and grow as an individual.
In the classroom, special education students can be frustrated and overwhelmed. However, they are extremely willing to learn. By providing students with fun interactive ways to learn, as well as collaborate, they feel more success in the classroom. This will encourage them to continue learning and foster their love for school.
My Project
As a special education teacher, my students need explicit and individualized instruction, as well as manipulatives and visuals to support their learning. However, as a teacher in a Title I urban school district, I know many of my students do not have access to a variety of books.
These books will allow them to sit and see up close the life cycle of a butterfly, and do so at their own pace.
The books are also leveled, allowing the students to read independently. By having the books, they will also be able to follow along with instruction more easily, while watching the life cycle of a butterfly in person. Being able to see and read about the life cycle of a butterfly will allow them to grow their learning even further.
