My Students

My students are so curious, and I am so happy to be able to introduce so many aspects of this fabulous world we live in through art!

Please help me in my endeavor to teach The Great Migration and The Harlem Renaissance.

Elementary students have limited exposure to this time period in United States history, and so much in the fields of literature, music & visual arts occurred during this time period.

We are a new school, and we have a minimum amount of materials at this time. I would love to be able to create diverse and exciting art experiences for my students, so I may open up the world to them.

My Project

My students need to know about the Great Migration and how it affects the United States even today. We have no resources at my school to teach this with. I want to make this project a yearly goal, and wish to amass this small library of books to help assist students to do research above and beyond the internet.

I wish to make teaching the Great Migration & the Harlem Renaissance an ongoing project where all 5th graders will have this project before they graduate from my school.

It is appropriate and important for them to learn about this time period in American History.

Students will learn the reasons for the Great Migration, and how the Harlem Renaissance shaped the visual arts, literature and music of the United States.
